What is Reiki?

Reiki is a word that has been around in Japan thousands of years and it means universal life force energy. The true name of Reiki treatments is Shin Shin Kaizen Usui Reiki Ryoho, the Usui Reiki Treatment Method for Improvement of Body and Mind. It is a Japanese method of healing, a technique that has been effective in helping virtually every known illness and always creates a beneficial effect. An amazingly simple technique that does not dependent on one's educational background or spiritual development and therefore is available to everyone. While Reiki is spiritual in nature, it is not a religion. In fact, Reiki is not dependent on belief at all and will work whether you believe in it or not.

Reiki is an integrated hands-on and distant healing practice that attunes, develops and supports the natural latent human healing energy. This energy is the natural vital healing force found in all life. Reiki balances body, mind, heart and spirit in a structured way through light, gentle, non-intrusive touch, compassionate intention and regard.

What is Jikiden Reiki?

The Jikiden Reiki Institute was started in Japan, founded by Chiyoko Yamaguchi and her son Tadao Yamaguchi. Jikiden means directly taught or directly passed on in Japanese, taught with nothing added or amended. It is taught in the same way that Chujiro Hayashi taught Chiyoko Yamaguchi and her family. Focusing primarily on treatment with a deep Japanese history and the culture. Reiki is pure, simple and extremely effective.

Different than the Reiki that has been taught in the West, through the lineage of Hawata Takata, Jikiden Reiki allows you to experience a Japanese form of Reiki in its original beauty and simplicity. All seminars follow exactly the same format so that Jikiden Reiki is always passed on in its original, simple form. Jikiden Reiki Shoden and Okuden seminars give you all you need to know in order to treat yourself and others with Jikiden Reiki. Every Reiki Shoden and Okuden students are registered with the Jikiden Reiki Institute or Jikiden Reiki Kenkyu Kai which is located in Kyoto Japan.

Reiki Treatments - Physical Treatments

Jikiden Reiki treatment is a gentle, hands-on healing therapy that transfers the balancing energy of Reiki through the hands of the Reiki practitioner. During a traditional Reiki treatment the recipient remains fully clothed and no oils or other substances are applied to the body. Reiki treatments are noninvasive, non-manipulative, and non-intrusive. While the focus of a Reiki treatment is on the major organs of the body, Reiki energy reaches and benefits every cell. During a Reiki treatment, the practitioner's hands are placed on the head, the face, the upper body (from neck to hip) and the back (from shoulders to feet). Reiki can also be applied to any injured part of the body. Reiki penetrates bandages, casts, bedding and clothing. Jikiden Reiki physical treatments last anywhere from 60 to 90 minutes and are generally concentrated on the head, upper back, soles of the feet, kidneys and areas that are of particular concern to the patient. After a short consultation the client lies fully clothed on a comfortable treatment table in a treatment room with soft lighting and relaxing music playing if the client prefers it. Treatments usually start with gentle touch to the head, feet, or abdomen.

Practitioners use the concept of Byosen, following the sensations in their hands that tell them which areas of the body need Reiki most. For some people 1- 3 treatments are enough to help them recover from a problem and for others a longer course of treatments is necessary. While definite benefit can be gained from a single treatment, to get the best results from Reiki, regular sessions are important. Reiki can also be transmitted from a distance. Often Reiki relieves pain and acute symptoms rapidly. Chronic problems may require more extensive treatment. Reiki supports and amplifies both conventional and Asian medical and non-medical treatments, as well as homeopathic and naturopathic therapies. Reiki is often effective in relieving symptoms of hypertension and stress-related distress. Reiki is immensely relaxing.

While the experience of Reiki treatment is individual, it is often accompanied by a deep feeling of warmth, well-being, comfort, relaxation, and revitalization. It is a gentle, physically and mentally balancing treatment. The body uses the extra energy to help repair itself quicker than it could otherwise. Many people experience other benefits including pain relief during the treatment. During a treatment everyone feels something different: warmth, heat, coolness, comfort, relaxation, and tingling are often reported. A Jikiden Reiki treatment is a very personal experience and there is no one particular feeling you should or shouldn’t experience.

Mental/Emotional/Psychological Treatments

Psychological or emotional treatments are a very effective way to help yourself through difficult times or issues-acute or chronic. It can be used for anything from fears, stress and worry to depression, addictions and severe trauma. The number of treatments required will be different for everyone, and the more long-term the issue, generally the longer it takes to resolve, though usually some positive effects can be felt from the outset. Psychological/Emotional treatments last from 20 to 30 minutes and can be done in person or remotely. These treatments are typically blended in with physical treatments, making them both relaxing and extremely effective.
